Chip & Pin
No, it’s not one of those irritating American cartoons that the
kids will insist on watching at full volume when you’re trying to have a
lie-in at the weekend!

The firm
was first founded |
|
by Ernest Bean in 1863, and founded
again in 1865 when he lost his memory after a particularly gruelling stag
night.
His marriage that year to Marianne Counter, daughter of another unsuccessful
Stratford book-keeper, created the dynasty of Ernest Bean-Counters who ran the
practice in succession until 1995.
That was the year in which Ernest Bean-Counter IV left the office to attend a
meeting with a new client at a disused abattoir, and was never seen again.
Fortunately he had made a new will earlier that day leaving the practice and
all his valuable personal assets to William Bookit, who had joined the firm in
1990 and now succeeded him as senior partner. The firm changed its name from
Bean-Counter and Son to Bookit & Chargem in 1999, following the appointment
of Charles Chargem as junior partner. |
